The full story: The Ascension

Part 1

After Jesus came back to life, he spent forty days with his best friends, the disciples. They met together, ate together, and talked on the Mount of Olives. What a joy it was to have Jesus back!

Jesus used this time to teach them many important things. He talked about the Kingdom of God and prepared his friends for a very special mission that was coming soon.

Part 2

One day, Jesus told them not to leave Jerusalem. He asked them to wait for a special gift that the Father had promised. This gift was the Holy Spirit, who would come to help them and give them power.

Jesus' friends were curious and full of questions. They wanted to know all of God's plans at once.

The disciples: Lord, are you going to give the kingdom back to Israel now?

Part 3

Jesus gently explained that it wasn't for them to know the dates and times that only God the Father knows. Instead, He gave them an amazing and adventurous task.

He said that when the Holy Spirit came, they would receive special strength. With this strength, they should tell everyone about Jesus, starting in their city, then in the neighboring regions, and even in the farthest places of the world!

You will be my witnesses... to the ends of the earth. — Acts 1:8

Part 4

As soon as he finished speaking, something wonderful happened. Right before everyone's eyes, Jesus began to go up into heaven! He went higher and higher and higher.

The disciples stared with their mouths open, looking up without blinking. Suddenly, a bright cloud appeared and covered Jesus, and they couldn't see him anymore. The sky was empty, but their hearts were full of wonder.

Part 5

While they were still staring up at the sky, two men dressed in white appeared beside them. They were angels! They had a very important message for Jesus' friends.

The angels gave a wonderful promise that filled everyone's hearts with hope and joy for the future.

Angels: This same Jesus, who was taken up into heaven, will come back in the same way you saw him go!
