Story summary

Saul was persecuting Christians and was on his way to Damascus to arrest them. On the road, a light from heaven knocked him down, and Jesus asked: "Saul, why are you persecuting me?". Saul was blind for three days. God sent Ananias to pray for him, something like scales fell from his eyes, and Saul, later called Paul, began telling people about Jesus.

The full story: The Conversion of Paul

Part 1

There was a man named Saul. He was very smart and thought he was doing the right thing by arresting Jesus' followers. He didn't understand that Jesus was the Son of God.

Saul traveled to a faraway city called Damascus. He carried special letters that gave him permission to arrest all the Christians he found there. He was determined to put an end to the church.

Part 2

As Saul and his men traveled, something amazing happened. Suddenly, a very bright light, brighter than the midday sun, shone from heaven all around him. The light was so intense that Saul fell to the ground.

His traveling companions stood still, speechless. They heard the sound of a voice, but saw no one. Saul was scared and confused, lying in the road's dust.

Part 3

Then, from the middle of the light, Saul heard a voice asking: "Saul, Saul, why are you hurting me?". Saul didn't know who was speaking and, trembling, he asked who it was.

The voice answered with love and power. It was Jesus! He explained that by hurting His followers, Saul was actually hurting Him. At that moment, Saul's heart began to change.

Jesus: I am Jesus, the one you are hurting.

Part 4

When Saul got up, he opened his eyes, but he couldn't see anything. The light had made him blind. His friends had to take him by the hand and guide him to the city of Damascus.

For three days, Saul couldn't see, eat, or drink. He spent all that time praying and thinking about what had happened. God was preparing his heart for a new mission.

For three days he was blind. He didn't eat or drink anything. — Acts 9:9

Part 5

God sent a good man named Ananias to find Saul. Ananias prayed for him and, at that very moment, something like scales fell from Saul's eyes, and he could see again! He got up and was baptized.

Saul became a new person. He changed his name to Paul and, instead of persecuting Christians, he spent the rest of his life traveling the world, telling everyone about Jesus' love and forgiveness.
