The full story: Simeon and Anna Meet Baby Jesus

Part 1

When Jesus was still a baby, Mary and Joseph took him to the temple in Jerusalem to present him to God, as the law of Moses said.

They brought a simple offering: a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons. They had no idea that two very special people were waiting for that baby!

"When the days of their purification according to the law of Moses were fulfilled, they brought him up to Jerusalem, to present him to the Lord." — Luke 2:22

Part 2

In Jerusalem lived Simeon, a righteous man who loved God. For a long time, he had been waiting for the Savior God had promised.

The Holy Spirit had shown Simeon that he would not die before seeing the Christ. That day, the Spirit led him to the temple. When he saw the baby, Simeon took him in his arms and praised God:

Simeon to God: Now you are releasing your servant, Master, according to your word, in peace; for my eyes have seen your salvation.

Part 3

Anna was also in the temple, a prophetess who was very old. She almost never left the temple: she served God night and day with prayers and fasting.

At that very moment, Anna came up, gave thanks to God, and began to speak about the child to everyone who was waiting for the redemption of Jerusalem.

"Coming up at that very hour, she gave thanks to the Lord, and spoke of him to all those who were looking for redemption in Jerusalem." — Luke 2:38

Part 4

Simeon and Anna waited for many, many years. And God kept his promise: they saw the Savior with their own eyes!

Simeon said that this baby would be a light for all nations. This story teaches us that God always keeps his promises, even when we have to wait.

"A light for revelation to the nations, and the glory of your people Israel." — Luke 2:32
