Story summary

James wrote a letter full of practical advice: be joyful in hard times, ask God for wisdom with faith, remember that riches fade like a flower, and know that every good thing comes from God. He teaches us to be quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry, and to do what the Word says, not just hear it.

Part 1

Hi there! There was a very wise man named James. He was an important leader for everyone who loved Jesus, like an older brother full of good advice.

One day, he wrote a very special letter. This letter traveled to many places to reach Jesus' friends who were spread out all over the world. It was to encourage them and teach them how to live in a way that pleases God.

James started the letter with a surprising idea: be happy when you go through hard times! Not a party kind of happy, but a strong joy that comes from trusting God, knowing that He is in control.

My brothers and sisters, think of it as pure joy whenever you face troubles of many kinds... — James 1:2

Part 2

But what should we do when we don't know the right path to take? James gives us a golden tip: ask God for wisdom! It's as simple as asking your mom or dad for help.

God is very happy to give us wisdom. He doesn't judge us for not knowing something. Instead, He gives us what we need with a generous and joyful heart.

However, James reminds us that we must ask with faith, truly trusting that God will help us. Anyone who doubts is like a wave in the sea, tossed here and there by the wind, without firmness.

James (writing in the letter): If any of you needs wisdom, you should ask God for it. He gives generously to everyone without finding fault. And he will give it to you.

Part 3

In his letter, James also talked about the things we have. He said that the most important thing isn't being rich or poor, but loving God and finding joy in Him.

The riches of this world are like a little wildflower in the field. It's beautiful for a while, but soon the strong sun comes, the flower withers, and its beauty fades away. Material things don't last.

What really matters is our treasure in heaven. Our friendship with God and the love we show to others are things that last forever and are worth much more than any money.

Part 4

James tells us that anyone who stays strong in faith, even when things are hard, is very happy. That person will receive an amazing gift from God: the crown of life, which is eternal life with Him.

And what about when we feel like doing something wrong? James explains that this desire, this temptation, never comes from God. God is pure light and goodness, and He would never tempt us to do evil.

Just the opposite! Everything good and perfect comes from God. He is our loving Father, who gave us the greatest gift of all: the chance to be His children through the truth of His Word.

Part 5

To finish, James gives us practical advice. He says: be quick to listen, but slow to speak and slow to become angry. Listening carefully is a sign of wisdom and love.

He reminds us that it's not enough just to hear God's teachings. It's like looking in a mirror, seeing your face, and then as soon as you turn away, forgetting what you look like. We need to practice what we learn!

Taking care of people who need help and keeping our hearts clean for God is true religion. This shows that we don't just hear the Word, but we let it change our lives.

Do what God's word says. Don't just listen to it... — James 1:22
