The full story: Isaac and Rebekah

Part 1

Abraham was very old. His son, Isaac, was a grown man, and Abraham wanted to find a wife for him.

Abraham called his most trusted servant and gave him a very important mission. He said, "Please go to my land and find a wife for Isaac among my relatives."

The servant promised he would do it. He prepared ten camels, took many beautiful gifts, and began his long journey.

Part 2

After many days, the servant arrived at the city where Abraham's relatives lived. He stopped with his camels near a well, at the time when young women usually came to draw water.

Then, the servant prayed a special prayer to God. He asked for a sign: the young woman God chose should give him water and also offer to give water to all his camels.

Lord, God of my master Abraham, please make me successful today... — Genesis 24:12

Part 3

Even before he finished praying, a beautiful young woman named Rebekah appeared with a jar on her shoulder. She went to the well, filled her jar, and came back.

The servant ran to her and asked, "Please give me a little water from your jar." Rebekah was very kind and answered right away.

Rebekah: Drink, my lord. And I will also draw water for your camels until they have all had enough to drink.

Part 4

The servant's heart was filled with joy! God had answered his prayer exactly as he had asked. He waited in silence while Rebekah, with much effort, gave water to all ten camels.

When she finished, the servant gave her a beautiful gold ring and two bracelets as gifts. He asked, "Whose daughter are you? Is there room in your father's house for us to spend the night?"

Rebekah answered that she was from Abraham's family! The servant knelt down and thanked God for guiding his steps to the right place.

Part 5

Rebekah's family heard the whole story and agreed that she should go. Rebekah also wanted to go, so she said goodbye and left with the servant and his camels.

As they were arriving, Isaac was walking in the field and saw the caravan. Rebekah also saw him and got down from her camel.

Isaac and Rebekah met, and he loved her very much. They got married and were very happy, and God continued to take care of Abraham's family.

Isaac loved her. So he was comforted after his mother died. — Genesis 24:67
