The full story: Isaiah Is Called

Part 1

One very special day, a man named Isaiah was in God's great Temple. The king had just passed away, and people were a little sad and worried about the future.

Suddenly, while he was praying, Isaiah had an amazing vision! He saw the Lord Himself, sitting on a very, very high throne. God's robe was so big and majestic that it filled the whole Temple.

Part 2

Above the throne, special angels called seraphim were flying. Each one had six wings! With two wings, they covered their faces out of respect for God. With two others, they covered their feet, and with the two remaining, they flew around the Temple.

They called out to each other in loud voices, and the sound was powerful and beautiful. Their singing filled the whole place with God's glory and made everything shake.

"Holy, holy, holy is the Lord All-Powerful. The whole earth is full of his glory." — Isaiah 6:3

Part 3

When Isaiah saw all of this, he became very afraid. He felt small and imperfect next to God's holiness. He knew he had made mistakes, just like all people.

He thought he wasn't worthy to be there, in the presence of such a pure and wonderful God. He was scared of what might happen.

Isaiah: Oh no! I'm ruined! I'm a man whose lips are not pure.

Part 4

But God is full of love and grace. One of the seraphim flew to the altar, picked up a glowing coal with tongs, and flew toward Isaiah. The angel gently touched Isaiah's lips with the coal.

It didn't hurt him! Instead, the angel said that his sins were forgiven and that he was clean. All of Isaiah's fear and guilt went away, and he felt brand new, ready to listen to God.

Part 5

Then, Isaiah heard God's voice asking a very important question to all of heaven. God needed someone to take His message to the people.

Now that Isaiah felt forgiven and brave, he didn't hesitate. He answered with a heart full of joy and a desire to serve. And so began Isaiah's great adventure as God's prophet.

"Whom shall I send? Who will go for us?" Then I said, "Here I am. Send me!" — Isaiah 6:8
