The Armour of God
Teach that Christians have God’s protection for real battles (bullying, anxiety, peer pressure, social media). Each piece of armour connects to an everyday struggle, without creating fear and showing that God has already won.

- Per session
- 50 minutes
- Total length
- 6 sessions
Key verse
"Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand."Ephesians 6:11
Method
Each session: 1) real check-in (10 min), a question about their week; 2) the piece (20 min), reading + explanation + application to preteen life; 3) practical action (15 min); 4) prayer to "put on" the piece (5 min). Do NOT use fearful language about demons; focus on PROTECTION and VICTORY.
Sessions (6)
1. BELT OF TRUTH: against fake news and white lies
Ephesians 6:14a: with the belt of truth buckled around your waist.
Aim: Truth holds everything together. Lies (even "white" ones) make us unstable. Learn to tell the truth with kindness.
Activity: Role-play: 3 common situations where preteens lie (I didn’t do my homework, I copied in a test, I talked about a friend). Discuss: how do you tell the truth WITHOUT being unkind? Truth + love.
Reflection: Without the belt, the armour falls off. Without truth, Christian life falls apart. Truth is how you talk to God, to your parents and to your friends.
Prayer: Lord, help me tell the truth even when it hurts. Amen.
2. BREASTPLATE OF RIGHTEOUSNESS: against guilt and perfectionism
Ephesians 6:14b: with the breastplate of righteousness in place.
Aim: The righteousness that protects is NOT yours (you fail). It is Jesus’. You are made right with God, not by your grades, looks or likes.
Activity: Each child writes on a slip "one thing I think makes me less of a Christian" (I failed a test, I fought, I lied). Put them in a bag. The teacher reads a few (without names) and says: "Jesus has already covered this. You are clean."
Reflection: Christian perfectionism crushes us. You are not your worst day. The breastplate is CHRIST’s righteousness over you.
Prayer: Jesus, cover me with your righteousness. I do not trust in my own. Amen.
3. SHOES OF THE GOSPEL OF PEACE: against anxiety and fear of the future
Ephesians 6:15: with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace.
Aim: Peace comes from knowing where you are going. Whoever has the gospel has direction. Anxiety comes from an uncertain future.
Activity: "Map of my week" activity: each child draws a route with 5 stops: school, home, friends, prayer, future (a dream). Talk: where is God at each stop?
Reflection: Shoes are practical: they give you a firm footing to WALK. Every step you take is with Jesus. Anxiety fades when you remember that.
Prayer: Lord, put your peace on my feet. I will walk with you this week. Amen.
4. SHIELD OF FAITH: against doubts and peer pressure
Ephesians 6:16: take up the shield of faith.
Aim: Faith is trusting God even when people question, laugh or doubt. It is NOT blind: it is trust based on who he is.
Activity: "The 3 hard questions" activity: each group discusses ONE real question (Does God exist? Why is there suffering? Is the Bible a myth?). They don’t need to solve everything; practise ANSWERING calmly. It is not a debate; it is sharing faith without fear.
Reflection: The shield puts out the ARROWS: short doubts that try to knock you down. You don’t need an answer for EVERYTHING, only to know WHO you trust.
Prayer: Father, make my faith strong. When people doubt, I will look to you. Amen.
5. HELMET OF SALVATION: against negative thoughts, for identity
Ephesians 6:17a: take the helmet of salvation.
Aim: A helmet protects the HEAD, where thoughts live. Knowing that I am SAVED + LOVED + CHOSEN changes how I think about myself.
Activity: "What do I think about myself?" activity: each child writes 3 negative thoughts about themselves (I am stupid, I am ugly, nobody loves me). Then on the OTHER side they write what GOD says (I was made by God, I am loved, I am forgiven). They tear off the negative side and keep the side with their true identity.
Reflection: Thoughts shape who you are. The helmet = putting your identity as God’s son or daughter first. Every day.
Prayer: Father, thank you for calling me your child. I will think about myself the way you do. Amen.
6. SWORD OF THE SPIRIT + REVIEW: the Word goes on the offensive
Ephesians 6:17b: the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God.
Aim: All the other pieces are for DEFENCE. The sword is for ATTACK. That is how Jesus defeated the tempter in the desert: by quoting Scripture.
Activity: "Find the right verse" game: the teacher reads a SITUATION ("a friend asks me to cheat"; "I am scared of the future"). Each group looks in the Bible for 1 verse that helps. They learn to USE the Word as a weapon.
Reflection: Review ALL 6 pieces (each child takes a paper piece of "armour" and writes the struggle it protects against). Stick them all on a class poster. Finish: "You are clothed in God’s armour."
Prayer: Lord, thank you for your Word. I will use it to stand firm in my faith. In Jesus’ name, amen.
